Parc Güell

Parc Güell is definitely a must-go in Barcelona because it’s one of the city highlights and a very pleasant place to spend some time with friends. It’s also one of the most remarkable Gaudí’s work, and it shows clearly his evolution as an architect. The construction of the place was inspired by the forms of nature, and it also shows that Gaudí succeeded in his search for a new urbanization style. There is a singular kind of decorative art called trencadís tiling that is particularly prevalent at Parc Güell. It consists in smashing up ceramics and piecing them back together in mosaic patterns. The park was projected by Gaudí in a partnership with the businessman Eusebi Güell. In the past, the park was intended for the eyes of a few selected like Catalan industrialists, patrons of the arts, and other member of Barcelona’s elite. Nowadays, the park is usually crowded, and it’s better to select very well the time that you to visit it. The park’s main attractions are the brightly colored mosaics and fountains like the colorful dragon fountain just across from Palmetto Gate. Since October 2013, the visitors need to pay the admission fee of €8 for access to the park. Parc Güell opens from 08:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from 25 October to 23 March and from 08:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from 24 March to 19 October.
