Westminster Abbey

The Westminster Abbey is a building that deeply catch our attention when we’re walking by the area of the City of Westminster in London. The architecture of a gothic religious building from the 10th century is already amazing on its own, but the Westminster Abbey fascinates me even more due to its historical background. The church is the most traditional place of coronation and burial site for British monarchs. It has also held many royal weddings, and the most recent one was Prince William and Kate Middleton’s marriage. It also houses a museum that is located in one of the oldest parts of the building. It exhibits a unique collection of royal funeral effigies, sculpture fragments and some panels of medieval glass. The Abbey also holds several events throughout the year, and you can check the upcoming ones on its website (http://www.westminster-abbey.org/events). Westminster Abbey is open to visitors from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday throughout the year, and the museum is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the same days of the week. The visit is free of charge.
